Remember when Halloween was about collecting a crazy amount of candy. And then watching in earnest while your parents carefully picked through the night’s gluttonous haul for anything suspicious. Now that I’m older, the brightly colored sweets have lost their appeal. I find myself favoring options that are far more satisfying and savory instead. Like these Olive Mummies. To conjure them up start with pitted olives “bandaged” with thin strips of puffed pastry. After baking to a golden brown, the pastry’s flaky crunch complements the intensified saltiness of the olives. All of which makes gobbling up these mum-yummy treats devilishly sweet.

Russell at Chasing Delicious - I know I say this all the time, but your blog is so pretty! You’re a great photographer and all your photos make me hungry… except for that scary mask face thing. That picture just scares me.
By the way, mummified olives = pure genius.
RChristopher - Thanks Russell. I’m glad you like the photos. I learn a little more about food photography with every post. Your right about the close-up of the face…it is a little freaky. But rest easy…it’s actually part of a “cute” retro Halloween decoration. ;^)
the food dude - Wow, I’ve never seen olives done this way, they look absolutely delicious! Great photos!
RChristopher - Thanks Food Dude! They’re easy to make and perfect for snacking.
Ericka Andersen - Hey there…wow, I’ve been scrolling through pages of your blog and can’t stop. It’s so pretty :) You do some great work with the camera and your creations! I like your descrip of “weekend kitchen warriors.” Anyway, just wanted to say I’m enjoying it and thanks for stopping by my blog yesterday!

kitchenriffs - LOVE the olive mummies! Very creative. Also like the idea of “101 words” Wednesday – the Wordless Wednesday idea is lots of fun, but too often one wants just a little more context than the pictures alone deliver. Speaking of pictures, your photos are great. Thanks.
Ruth - Wow those look fantastic – and the photos are amazing! I would like a bowl of these right now!
Hester @ Alchemy in the Kitchen - Gorgeous, gorgeous photos and I love your ‘mummified’ olives, and your pound cake, and even the simple blue cheese with figs. Drooooooool!
Erin - These look out of this world! Who needs a fun-sized Snickers when you could nosh on these lovely nibbles? Beautiful blog.
Delishhh - Love your blog – the clean look and your photography is out of this world. Very nice! This post is so much fun – olive mummies i would have never thought of it. Just awesome!
